This year started a bit ruff for us, we’ve been working and planning different things to get us going this year, so we had no time to update our blog properly, but sure enough Frost is more bothered by his workaholic humans than anything else. No worries though, we are working on new blog posts (few of them) and hope to get on track soon enough. Our first comeback post will be about dog safety in the dark months or time of the year.
When we think about the dog safety one of the main things is night visibility. It’s not only important for the dog owner’s ability to see his pooch, but also for other people and cars. There are many things for that – collars in different shapes and colours, even safety vests that reflect the light, but are all those things similar in use?
Some time ago the kind people from Orbiloc sent Frost a safety light, because we have used few collars in past and we were not fully satisfied with their performance. One thing that does not please us is that you have to charge collars very frequently and most of the time it can get on your nerves when you’re in hurry or go for a long walk and it just stops working or barely works.
Orbiloc is a Danish-made high quality LED Safety Light designed to keep you safe in the dark. The safety light ensures that you are visible to others from a distance of 5 kilometres / 3 miles when out and about in the dark – drastically reducing the risk of being involved in an accident or dangerous situation.
Cons of the previous collars:
For example – the buckle on the first collar that we got for Frost broke and we could not close it, so we had to stick it together with a duct tape for it to hold. It was a simple collar without the leash attachment option.
Second Frost’s light collar got bitten off him by a bigger dog in the park and for the second time the buckle part was broken. It was bummer, really, because this collar was very handy and we had no problems with the frequent charging, it could also be used as a collar to attach your leash to.
One of the main things that was important to us was the need for collar/light to be pretty impact resistant, so it would not break apart easily. That’s why Orbiloc caught our eye and if you go through the homepage you can find out that it’s really useful for humans aswell. It has a simple design and as graphic designers we can appreciate that. It’s also waterproof and very easy to attach to collar/harness or even clothing. If you are unsure at the first if the rubber part can hold the light in place well enough, then don’t be, because it does it’s job just fine and does not wobble at all. If you still prefer something else, then Orbiloc offers variety of attachments for the light. When we got the light, we joked that Frost now looks like a lighthouse that gives us signal that guides us home. So far the light has proven itself to be very useful and easy to use, so if you’re in the market for a good quality light for yourself or your dog, go check them out. 🙂
